Our Jubilant Journey - Odyssey of the Mind World Finals 2018
Congratulations to our two teams of fourth and fifth-formers, who have just made a triumphant return from the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals 2018, an internationally-acclaimed tournament that allowed our students to hone their problem-solving skills and compete with delegates from different countries on the world stage.
Being held at Iowa State University, the United States on 23-26 May this year, the event is an educational program that aims to engage students in their learning by empowering their knowledge and ideas to come to life and creativity to soar to new height.
This being the second consecutive year our school has had the privilege to join this world-scale extravaganza, our school delegation was chaperoned by Ms Yan, our Principal and Mr Liu, our teacher advisor. The two school teams, each comprising 7 students, found the trip no easy for them at all as they had to fly all the way to Chicago by first taking a 15-hour flight which was followed by another 6 hours travelling on the coach, let alone the fierce competition they faced. However, the record-breaking honour of being the first government school bagging two championships and sending two teams to represent Hong Kong fueled their hearts with pride and passion, which helped keep them fighting and giving their best till the very end.
Better still, the tournament was more than a world-class creative STEM competition, but indeed a cross-cultural fiesta for friendship and international understanding to blossom among delegates from all around the world. Throughout the program, especially during the closing ceremony, all participants had a great time chit-chatting, trading pins, T-shirts and even jackets that represented their countries or cities with each other. The members of our two school teams all expressed that alongside the fruitful learning experiences, the fond memories and memorabilia would remain souvenirs that they treasure most and last for a life-time.
