Date: 11/10/2023

Our school’s Service Learning Team has joined the Jockey Club’s Volunteer Together – School-based Program and invited the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups to conduct volunteer service training activities with the theme of elderly care for our school’s secondary 2 students.

This training consists of three different levels of activities. First, a social service seminar was held for students to learn relevant concepts and volunteer service skills, such as the needs of the elderly, skills in caring for the elderly etc. Then, experiential activities were provided for students , such as: hunchback strap experience, vision and hand degeneration experience etc. Furthermore, to personally experience the various needs of the elderly in their daily lives, enhance their empathy, and enhance their motivation to participate in volunteer services; and finally, social service planning training, such as: age-friendly maps, etc. and allow students to learn skills in planning volunteer services through discussions.

This program also provided students with more incentives and opportunities to participate in social services. We have set up an online volunteer service recording platform account for students, allowing them to record their daily "good deeds" and inculcating the concept of "don't neglect a good deed because it is small"; in addition, the group also held an activity to design thoughtful cards for the elderly to encourage students to turn knowledge into action, and practice the spirit of social service.
