S4 Social Services Visiting Underprivileged Families in Kwun Tong District

Tseung Kwan O Government Secondary School's Secondary 4 Service-Learning Activity — "TKOGSS × HKBU Subdivided Flat Home Visits" marked its third consecutive year of collaboration with Hong Kong Baptist University. On Saturday, March 21, Vice Principals Ms. Wong Ching-yee, Ms. Chan Weng-yi, and Mr. Hap Chi-hang led teachers and students to participate in this memorable and deeply meaningful volunteer initiative.

On the day of the event, Secondary 4 students were divided into morning and afternoon sessions. Carrying gift bags and thoughtfully designed greeting cards, they gathered at the school before setting off in high spirits to Kwun Tong Garden Estate (Lotus Tower) to meet up with their student mentors from HKBU. Although the students had undergone detailed preparations and role assignments through two earlier on-campus lectures, they could still hardly conceal their mix of nervous and excited emotions as the home visits began. During the subsequent reflection session, students shared how deeply moved they were, noting that stepping into the community firsthand allowed them to gain a much profound understanding and accurate awareness of the living conditions across different social strata.

The success of this event was made possible through the meticulous planning and assistance of Hong Kong Baptist University and the Society for Community Organization (SoCO). Through this opportunity, teachers and students reached into the quiet corners of society to put their learning into practice through care, gaining a deep empathy for the plight of underprivileged families while reflecting on their own social responsibilities.
